After two weeks of great action at Final X Rutgers and Lincoln, we have our Senior women’s freestyle and men’s Greco-Roman team assembled, along with nine of the ten members of our men’s freestyle team. Final X Lincoln was a memorable event with some epic, three-match series’, feel-good moments, dominant superstars, and surprising underdogs. The winners of both Final X events will comprise our Senior World team which will compete in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, September 14th-22nd. Between now and the World Championships there will be plenty of previews and coverage of these athletes on The Open Mat.

1) JB Does it Again!

At this point, after making his ninth world team in nine years, we probably take Jordan Burroughs for granted. When fans and media members are surveying the matchups at Final X, I’m sure they quickly penciled him in as a winner and focused more on some of the other clashes that were set to take place in Lincoln. I’m guilty of it myself. After watching Burroughs prevail in a hard-fought, three-match battle against Isaiah Martinez, I’m reminded that “just making” the team is no piece of cake. This guy has gone nine for his last nine in doing so. During these nine years, even though Jordan has finished the year as the best in the world (1 Olympic gold and 4 World gold medals) more often than not, he has still had to come to work ready for a fight in the World Team Trials or Final X.
