A day after it was announced that Augsburg would be starting a women’s wrestling program, new head coach Max Mejia got a huge commitment from Emily Shilson, the top recruit in the high school Class of 2019. She posted her intentions Shilson is a Minnesota native that was a Cadet World Champion and won a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in 2018. This was her second world medal, after taking silver in 2017. Emily also earned her fifth national title in Fargo last summer, by surrendering only two points in her five matches. Recently Shilson won a Junior Folkstyle National Championship competing at 106 lbs. Emily has had a history of success in folkstyle as well, qualifying for the Minnesota Boys State Tournament on three occasions. She has wrestled at 43 kg internationally at the Cadet level and will probably fit in well at 101 lbs collegiately.
