2019 California (Girls) High School State Recap

Yesterday we discussed the boys portion of the California (CIF) State Championships, today we are looking at the girls tournament. For the first time, the girls event was held alongside the boys. Since California has been one of the pioneering states for girls wrestling, the talent that is found at this tournament is exponentially better than almost anywhere else in the country.

This year’s tournament featured a strong youth movement from an incredible freshman class and a team race that was quite unusual.

Here is a look at some of the interesting items from the California Girls State Championships.

116 lbs - Monica Garcia (Norte Vista)

121 lbs - Adriana Lopez (Upper Lake)

131 lbs - Cheyenne Bowman (Rowland)

137 lbs - Dalia Garibay (Freedom)

143 lbs - Lillian Freitas (Pitman)

150 lbs - Amit Elor (College Park)

160 lbs - Yelena Makoyed (Bella Vista)

170 lbs - Alia Abushi (Arroyo)

189 lbs - Folashade Akinola (Menlo Atherton)

235 lbs - Tavi Heidelberg (McClatchy)
