The holidays are over and the New Year is here which means it is time to recognize TOM’s Women’s College Wrestler of the Month for December. As always, there were many deserving lady-scrappers; however, December’s wrestler of the month is Menlo’s, Alleida Martinez. The star freshman from Selma, California dominated all challengers and saw her rise from the fifth-ranked wrestler at 109-pounds all the way to the top spot in the rankings after her impressive month. She won all matches via technical-fall or by pin without yielding a single point.
Competing at the Blue Chip Open, Martinez won all matches by 10-0 technical fall victories, including over seventh-ranked Raven Guidry (Oklahoma City) as she claimed the 109-pound crown. She then followed that up with another dominating 10-0 win as she helped propel Menlo to a victory in their dual over Emmanuel College. Finishing the month with what was her most impressive performance; Martinez captured the 109-pound title at the West Coast Tournament of Champions. She cruised to the title on the heels of two quick pins and two more shutout, technical-fall wins over fourth-ranked Rhonda Johnson (Wayland Baptist) and then top-ranked Maria Vidales (Emmanuel) in the finals.
Congratulations to Alleida Martinez from all of us here at The Open Mat on her outstanding performances and being our Women’s College Wrestling Wrestler of the Month for December!
