Earlier this long weekend, news broke that WCWA national champion Abby Nette would be transferring from Emmanuel College to Campbellsville University. As first reported by Transition Wrestling, Nette has one year of eligibility left and will use that time to compete for head coach Lee Miracle at Campbellsville. Without Nette, Miracle had already secured the top-ranked recruiting class in women’s collegiate wrestling for the Class of 2019. Her addition will help the Tigers back into the national championship picture. Campbellsville won their first and only WCWA national championship in 2018 and placed sixth at the tournament in 2019, along with fourth-place at the NAIA’s.
Along with her 2019 national championship at 130 lbs, Abby was also third for Emmanuel at the WCWA meet in 2018. This spring and summer Nette has been quite busy. She has secured her place on the women’s U23 World Team for the second consecutive year and at the US Open, Abby was the runner-up at 59 kg to world silver medalist Alli Ragan. A few weeks later, at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament, Nette lost 6-6, on criteria, to the Hawkeye Wrestling Club’s Lauren Louive in the semifinals. Abby would then defeat Louive’s teammate Michaela Beck for true second and a spot on the national team.
So far this summer Abby has competed twice internationally, earning the bronze medal at the Canada Cup and taking fifth at the Poland Open.
