Do you know what really Grinds My Gears? “Repechage”. What? Don't you know what that is? Don’t worry about it, it only comes into play on our sports largest stage, the Olympics (and also World Championships). Not only are casual fans of the sport forced to learn a new word, we are forced to learn a new French word! What a surprise that it means “rescue”. They have been needing that since WWII.
Here is a quick breakdown of how it works at the Olympics: The repechage round begins with the wrestlers who lost to the two finalists at the lowest level of competition in the elimination round. The brackets are separated by the wrestlers who lost to one finalist and the wrestlers who lost to the other. The two wrestlers who win after every level of competition are the victors of the repechage round and win a bronze medal.
