Today KSTP-TV out of Minneapolis reported that two Minnesota wrestlers, Gable Steveson and Dylan Martinez, have been arrested and are under investigation on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct. At this time the details surrounding this incident have not been made public. Both were arrested Saturday night and spent the night in the Hennepin County Jail.
In a statement obtained by KSTP-TV, a Minnesota athletic department official stated that, “We are aware of a situation involving two of our student athletes and are in the process of gathering more information. These students have been suspended from all team activity pending further information. Federal and state law precludes any further details at this time.”
Steveson was the top recruit in the high school Class of 2018 and finished his true freshman season third in the nation at 285 lbs, after making the Big Ten finals for Minnesota. After winning the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in May, Gable had the opportunity to participate in Final X Rutgers last Saturday. The former Junior World Champion Steveson fell in two straight matches, both on criteria. Martinez did not compete for the Gophers in 2018-19 after transferring from Fresno City College.
