UW-La Crosse sweeps Journeymen Duals, wins 4 titles at Augsburg Invitational

Albany, N.Y./Minneapolis, Minn. -- The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team went 3-0 at the Journeymen Duals on Saturday in Albany, New York while having four champions at the Augsburg University (Minn.) Auggie Invitational.

In the Journeymen Duals, UWL earned a 47-3 victory over York College of Pennsylvania, a 25-9 win over The College of New Jersey and a 27-15 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.). The Eagles improve to 5-0 on the season.

At the Augsburg (Minn.) Open, Kaiden Schrandt (141), Talan Schutte (149), Brett Skaug (165) and Kasey Gish (197) each won individual titles in the Freshman Division. Schrandt went 4-0 with three falls, winning the title with a decision (12-11) over Aiden Crawley of Iowa Lakes Community College. Schutte went 3-0 with a major decision (13-3) over Cooper Sanders of the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) in the title match. Skaug won the 165-pound division with a 3-0 record after a forfeit over teammate Zach Eliszewski in the championship match. Gish also went 3-0 with a major decision (15-6) over Josh Glendening of Upper Iowa University in the title match.

Eliszewski (165) was second while Matt Halidman (133) and Jackson Ormand (197) each placed third. Eliszewski went 2-0; Haldiman 2-1 and Ormand 3-1. Owen Foster (157) was fifth in the Freshman Division with a 3-2 mark while Thomas Giere (125) placed sixth with a 2-3 record.

In the Gold Division, Tate Flege (165) placed third with a 4-1 record while Tyler Dormanen (184) was third with a 4-1 record, earning all four victories by fall. Camren Dennee (174) and Gabe Carter (184) each placed fifth as Dennee went 4-2 and Carter 3-2.

Cael Weinzweig (125) finished 1-2 in the Gold Division while Joe Penchi (149) and Sam Schwabe (174) each went 1-1.

UWL returns to action Saturday, December 2 at the Buena Vista University (Iowa) Open at 9 a.m.
