No. 1 Augsburg scores 22-13 win over Division II power Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Winning six of the final eight bouts of the match to overcome an early 7-0 deficit, the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III men's wrestling, Augsburg University, claimed a 22-13 victory over the No. 14-ranked team in Division II, Augustana University (S.D.), on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies fell behind 7-0 after two bouts, but rallied back with six wins in the final eight bouts to score the victory, improving to 10-3 in the all-time series with the Vikings. Augsburg is ranked No. 1 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III tournament national rankings and No. 2 in the NWCA's dual-meet rankings, while Augustana is ranked No. 14 in the NWCA's Division II national poll.
• The Auggie comeback began in a big way, as No. 6-ranked 141-pounder Sam Stuhl (SR, Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth HS) dominated in a 17-0, third-period technical fall of Augustana's No. 11-ranked Hunter Burnett. Stuhl took a 5-0 lead on a takedown and two-point near-fall in the first period, expanded the lead with an escape, takedown and two-point near-fall in the second period, and clinched the technical fall with back-to-back three-point near-falls in the third period. Stuhl is now 19-4 on the season with 13 bonus-point wins (five pins, four technical falls, four major decisions) and is 90-26 in his collegiate career.
• No. 3-ranked 149-pounder Charlie Stuhl (JR, Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth HS) followed his older brother's win with a 10-5 triumph over Kyle Boeke, improving to 19-3 on the season and 86-24 in his career. Leading 6-5 in the third period, Stuhl clinched the victory with a takedown and a riding time point.
• Three straight wins by ranked Auggie wrestlers gave the visitors a 19-10 advantage. No. 3-ranked 165-pounder Cooper Willis (SO, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) improved to 26-1 with his 23rd straight victory, a 10-1 major decision over Tyler Wagener. He used two takedowns and a reversal to score his 16th bonus-point win (seven pins, five technical falls, four major decisions).
• At 174, No. 3-ranked Seth Goetzinger (JR, Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield HS) improved to 23-4 with a 13-3 major decision over Coy Gunderson. Leading 6-3 midway through the seocnd period, Goetzinger converted a takedown into a four-point near-fall to take a commanding lead, en route to his 15th bonus-point win (six pins, five technical falls, four major decisions).
• In one of the highlight bouts of the evening, top-ranked 184-pounder Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann (SR, Loyal, Wis./Marshfield HS) claimed his 20th straight victory, improving to 23-1 with an 8-1 win over Augustana's No. 4-ranked Cade Mueller. Schwanebeck is now 105-29 in his college career.
• No. 4-ranked heavyweight Tyler Kim (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) improved to 125-24 in his college career and 21-2 this season, scoring a 10-6 win over Augustana's Max Balow.

FOR THE FOES
• The Vikings opened the match with two straight victories, as No. 2-ranked 125-pounder Jaxson Rohman scored a 17-5 win over Augsburg's Wyatt Kaczrowski (JR, Seymour, Wis./Seymour HS), and Jack Huffman topped Chance Suddeth (FY, Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton HS) 7-5.
• Payton Anderson broke a 1-1 tie with a takedown in the third period to edge Augsburg's No. 5-ranked Blake Jagodzinske (JR, Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West HS) at 157.
• In a meeting of ranked wrestlers at 197, Augustana's No. 11-ranked Max Ramberg scored a 7-3 win over Augsburg's No. 4-ranked Parker Venz (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS). Ramber scored an escape and takedown in the third period to pull away from Venz.
