Hastings women's team wins KCAC championship for second straight year

CRETE, Neb. -- For the second straight year, the Hastings College women's wrestling team won the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a team score of 175.5 as Ottawa finished second with 174 points on Saturday afternoon.

Reagen Gallaway barely broke a sweat in her run at 143 as it only took her :26 to tech fall Kaylee Narlock of Jamestown. Gallaway then pinned Andrea Jones of Doane at the 1:06 mark to advance to the semifinals. There she pinned Livia Swift of Ottawa at the 1:11 mark to march into the championship match where Randie Scoon had to bow out due to injury which made Gallaway a conference champion in just her first year at HC.

Another first year standout was Victoria Guinard at 170 as she began her tournament run by pinning Cayley Maynard just :19 into their match. Then she dominated Hailey Romero from Doane by picking up the 13-2 tech fall victory to advance to the semifinals. She met up and pinned Aime Hernandez Perez of York at the 2:25 mark to move into the title match. She faced Grace Timmons from Friends and it only took her :38 to pin her to claim the conference title in just her first year at Hastings.

Adacelli Saliz-Noriega had an interesting day at 116 as she came in as the favorite to win the whole thing. Her first match was against Carysa Corrado and Corrado built and 8-0 lead before Salaiz-Noriega would finally get a take down before the first period ended. She then took Corrado down again but this time got her on her back picking up the pin to advance to the semifinals. There she faced off against Jenna Gerhardt of Jamestown and Déjà vu played out as she fell behind 8-0 once again. As the second period started she once again managed to take Gerhardt down and would pin her at the 4:27 mark to advance to the finals. She would end up losing to Adison Saporito to claim second place.

At 136, Kaydince Turner began her day by pinning Samantha Segura-Veliz of Midland just :44 into the match. She then picked up a 10-0 tech fall victory over Brisa Salas of York to advance to the semifinals. She faced off against Aileen Lester of Ottawa pick up the pin at the 1:25 mark to advance to the title match. Turner would lose to Gianna Moreno 10-2 to claim second place.

Tabitha Wood was also in action at 136 as she began her day with a pin over Marissa Burt of Jamestown. Wood then pinned Bridgette Sotomayor of Doane at the 4:00 mark to advance to the semifinals where she would lose to Moreno. Wood moved to the consolation bracket where she pinned Salas of York to advance to the third place match. There she would lose and would finish fourth.

Larissa Kaz started her tournament run at 123 with a solid tech fall victory over Ryliee Hoppe of York to advance to the semifinals. There she battled Emily Paulino in a great match but just didn't have enough losing 11-8. Kaz bounced back picking up a quick pin over Samantha Weeks of Jamestown to move into the third place match where she faced Emma Truex of Ottawa. Kaz would eventually pin Truex at the 1:41 mark to bring home third place.

Lisa Hoeflich competed at 155 and began her day with a 9-0 victory over Kaydence Bonewell of Ottawa. She then picked up a 10-0 tech fall victory over Amelia Coykendall of York to move on to the semifinals. She would end up losing to Aspen Barber to move into the consolation bracket where she picked up a hard fought 2-0 win over Bailee Hawks of Friends to advance to the third place match. Hoeflich would defeat Oliva Smith of Dakota Wesleyan 5-0 to claim third place.

At 191 Marissa Patterson got things started with a pin at the :59 mark over Grace Todhunter of Jamestown. She then pinned Jasmin Ballesteros of Midland with only :25 to go to move onto the semifinals. She would drop that match to move into the consolation bracket where she quickly pinned Shan Briggs of Avila to move into the third place match. She would pin Melissa De La Torr of Morningside to claim third.
