Tiffin women win Region 3 championship

Tiffin University's women's wrestling team won the NCWWC Region 3 Championship at Gannon University, sending six grapplers to the national championships in the process.

The Dragons outdistanced Adrian 134-113.5 for the title. Albion was third with 109 while Gannon was fourth with 93.5.

Tiffin had two individual region champions, as Jenavi Alejandro (109 pounds) and Arianna Carrasquillo (130) took home titles.

Also qualifying for the national championships with Top 4 placements were Grace Jones (2nd at 116), Erin Martin (2nd at 155), Sidney Ramos (2nd at 170), and Trinity Berry (2nd at 191).

Alejandro continued her sensational sophomore season with three wins. She posted a 10-0 win over Albion and a 10-0 win over Hiram before winning the title with a 2-0 shutout over Adrian. Overall Alejandro did not allow a single point in regional competition.

Carrasquillo got her title with two pinfall victories. She pinned John Carroll in 2:43 before winning the championship over Albion by fall in 1:07.

Jones had a 10-0 tech fall win over Hiram and a pin in 4:29 over Adrian to reach the title bout where she fell 11-0 to Adrian.

Martin opened with a 9-0 win over Trine before pinning Hiram in 3:00. She then fell by pin in 1:22 to Adrian in the first-place match.

Ramos won her semifinal match over D'Youville by fall in 2:16 before losing to Gannon 13-0 in the title bout.

Berry opened with a pin over Trine in 1:09 and then won by tech fall 12-0 over Alma. She then dropped the title bout by injury default to Albion.

A number of other Dragons just missed national trips with 5th place marks. Madelin Allen (123) had a pin over Trine in 1:37 and won the 5th-place match by injury default. Tatiana Bermudez (136) won her 5th-place match by fall in 2:03 over D'Youville, and Tia Leahy (170) also won by fall in 3:33 over Adrian to place fifth.

Paige Lenhardt (143) was 6th with a pin over Hiram in 50 seconds, while Makaya Crisenbery was 8th with a pin over D'Youville in 2:31.
