Onondaga CC to add men's, women's wrestling programs

The Onondaga Community College Athletic Department is excited to announce the addition of men's and women's wrestling beginning in the winter season of 2024. This will bring a total of 19 intercollegiate programs offered at the college. The wrestling season will take place each year from October to March.

Athletic Director, Mike Borsz is excited for the continuation of growth of athletics at the college. "I'm very excited and proud to announce the addition of Men's and Women's Wrestling to our NJCAA sponsored sport offering. Wrestling was a natural choice for us to add due to the large number of area high schools who offer wrestling, and how we already host Section III, New York State and other community wrestling meets in the SRC Arena. Many of those students area already familiar with our campus and they will now have an opportunity to stay in the area, continue in their sport and receive an affordable and quality education at the same time. We are looking forward to welcoming OCC wrestlers to campus this fall!"

Onondaga will be one of the few institutions to offer the women's program as well. "Women's wrestling is an emerging sport at the high school level and quickly growing in popularity. We wanted to be an early sponsor of the sport at the collegiate level to capture that energy," says Borsz.
