Molony named head wrestling coach at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W. Va. -- Davis & Elkins College Interim Director of Athletics Jeff Eisen has announced the hiring of Tom Molony as head men's wrestling coach.

"We are looking forward to Tom's leadership of our wrestling team," said Eisen. "He brings the experience, passion, and technical expertise to take our program to greater heights. The future of D&E wrestling is bright with Tom at the helm."

Molony comes to D&E after one season at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. During his short time at William Jewell, Molony coached the 2023 NCAA Division II Rookie of the Year candidate and Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. His wrestlers nearly quadrupled their team points in Super Region IV from 2022 to 2023. The team had their first two dual meet wins in the NCAA-era of the program, after going 0-13 in the previous year. One student-wrestler hit the 20-win mark, while three others finished with at least 10 wins on the season.

Prior to his time at William Jewell, Molony spent two seasons as the head coach of Calumet College of St. Joseph where he gained valuable experience operating a young program. During his time at Calumet, he coached one NAIA national qualifier, one American Midwest Conference champion, and two other top-three conference placers. He also spent time on the sidelines of Elmhurst College (NCAA DIII) as an assistant coach, mentoring four conference champions, seven national qualifiers, and two All-Americans and helping lead the team to a 2017 CCIW team championship. As the assistant head coach of Triton College (NJCAA) from 2011-2014, he coached 15 national qualifiers and one All-American.

Molony is a veteran of the United States Air Force where he spent three years competing in Olympic freestyle at Whiteman Air Force Base. He earned his bachelor's degree in English from Northern Illinois in 2001.
