LaMont joins Army West Point coaching staff

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Army West Point wrestling head coach Kevin Ward has announced Taylor LaMont as the newest assistant coach of Army Black Knight wrestling.

LaMont brings a polished wrestling background to Army, with an esteemed career on the mat at Utah Valley, Wisconsin and with USA Wrestling.

"We went out and found the perfect fit for our program in hiring Taylor LaMont," said Army head coach Kevin Ward. "Obviously, his wrestling credentials speak for themselves – he has been a world class competitor since his high school days, and he continued to have incredible success throughout college and afterwards. I am thrilled he chose West Point as the place to launch his coaching career. Taylor is a person of incredible character who really values impacting lives through wrestling and he will make an immediate impact on our program."

LaMont was an NCAA qualifier in each of his four seasons at Utah Valley, primarily in the 125lb class for the Big 12 Conference program. The Mapleton, Utah native secured All-American accolades after placing fifth at the 2021 NCAA Championships in St. Louis.

Moving up to 133lbs at Wisconsin for his final collegiate season, LaMont placed eighth at the Big Ten Championships and qualified for his fifth total NCAA Championship appearance.

A six-time USA World Wrestling Team member, LaMont finished fifth at the 2021 U23 World Championships at 55kg. His 2024-25 Team USA ranking climbed as high as No. 4 in the 60kg class. Additionally, LaMont finished in fourth place at the 2024 Olympic Trials.

LaMont is the son of Craig and Diane LaMont and has four siblings; Cindy, Grant, Krianne and Celeste, and was teammates with his older brother Grant at Utah Valley.
