Cook named inaugural head women's wrestling coach

EDINBORO, Pa. -- Edinboro athletics announced Ryan Cook as the first head coach of the newly formed women's wrestling program.

"We are excited to name Coach Cook as the first head coach for Fighting Scots women's wrestling," said Director of Athletics Dr. Katherine Robbins. "Ryan not only brings with him twenty years of experience in building quality wrestlers and winning teams, but his passion for and commitment to the sport of wrestling is simply unparalleled. He is the perfect coach to build a new legacy for women's wrestling that adds to the pride, history and tradition of Boro Wrestling."

Cook, a 1998 graduate of Edinboro and a Fighting Scot wrestling alumnus, has spent the last 21 years at the helm of General McLane wrestling.

"As an alumnus and Edinboro resident, I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to build the Women's wrestling program during this exciting new time for athletics at Edinboro," said Cook. "I am confident that my experience and passion for the sport will enable me to make a significant contribution to the university and develop student-athletes both on and off the mat."

In his time at the head of the Lancers, Cook has complied a 255-100 dual meet record. Under his tutelage, the Lancers had 48 District X champions, 52 state qualifiers, 12 PIAA place winners and two state finalists.

Cook has been an advocate for women's wrestling. He established the girls' wrestling team at both the high school and junior high levels at General McLane.

"I want to congratulate Dr. Robbins and President Anderson for their hard work in adding the opportunity for female athletes to compete within the storied tradition that is Edinboro Wrestling," Cook said.

Cook is a member of the Team Pennsylvania Women's National Team that is competing at the 2025 USA Wrestling Junior and 16U National Championships which will be held in the FargoDome in Fargo, N.D. on July 10-19.
