Iowa State has landed one of the nation's top heavyweights in the Class of 2026.

Coby Merrill, ranked No. 7 overall in the Class of 2026 by MatScouts, announced his commitment to the Cyclones on social media Saturday. He attends John W. North High School in California.

"Thank you for everyone that was part of this journey," wrote Merrill. "I want to announce my commitment to Iowa State University. Go Cyclones!"

Merrill won a California state championship this past season at 285 pounds. He finished the season with a 48-0 record and 44 pins. Merrill was a state runner-up in each of the previous two seasons.

This spring Merrill finished third in the challenge tournament at the U20 World Team Trials in freestyle.
