Iowa State adds Olympian, two-time NAIA champ Ogunsanya

Olympian and William Penn standout Christianah Ogunsanya has committed to Iowa State, giving the Cyclones another major addition as the program continues to build its inaugural roster.

Ogunsanya brings extensive international and collegiate credentials to Ames. Representing Nigeria, she competed at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris at 53 kilograms and is a multiple-time African champion in freestyle wrestling. She also captured gold at the 2023 African Games and has represented Nigeria at multiple World Championships.

At the collegiate level, Ogunsanya competed for William Penn University, where she established herself as one of the top wrestlers in women's college wrestling. She is a two-time NAIA national champion, including a title during the 2025-26 season at 117 pounds, and played a key role in William Penn's success on the national stage.

Ogunsanya was also recognized nationally for her performances, earning finalist honors for the prestigious Anthony-Maroulis Trophy, awarded annually to the top women's college wrestler in the country.

Her commitment continues the momentum for Iowa State women's wrestling, which recently added another accomplished William Penn transfer in Piper Fowler. Fowler, a 2026 NAIA national champion and U17 world champion, became the first student-athlete signed by the Cyclones' new women's wrestling program.

With the additions of Ogunsanya and Fowler, Iowa State is assembling a roster loaded with proven national and international talent as the Cyclones prepare for their debut season in NCAA women's wrestling.
