The Citadel has named Tim McCall as its new head wrestling coach following a nationwide search conducted during the offseason.

McCall arrives after serving as head assistant at Utah Valley for the past two years, bringing both high-level coaching experience and a strong competitive background. A former standout at the University of Wisconsin, he was a two-time NCAA qualifier and team captain during his collegiate career.

McCall expressed enthusiasm about leading the program and building on its foundation. He emphasized a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the mat while fostering a culture rooted in accountability, hard work, and unity .

The hiring followed an extensive evaluation process led by Senior Associate Athletic Director Rachel Fineberg. McCall was selected for his leadership qualities, vision, and proven track record, which align with the institution's mission and wrestling culture .

At Utah Valley, McCall played a key role in the program's recent success. The Wolverines qualified five wrestlers for the 2026 NCAA Championships, one of the top marks in school history, and earned notable dual wins over ranked opponents. He also contributed to the development of All-American Terrell Barraclough and helped guide the team to multiple victories over nationally ranked programs .

Beyond competition, McCall emphasized academic success within the program. Utah Valley produced 13 NWCA Scholar All-Americans during his tenure, including a program-record nine in one season, while maintaining team GPAs among the top 10 nationally .

Before Utah Valley, McCall spent nearly a decade at NC State, first as a training center athlete and later as an assistant coach. During that time, he contributed to four consecutive ACC team titles, coached multiple conference champions, and helped develop numerous All-Americans while the program consistently finished among the top teams nationally .

Originally from Hope Mills, North Carolina, McCall earned his degree in Agricultural Business Management from Wisconsin. He and his wife, Beth, have two children.
