Iowa coach Chun signs contract extension through 2031

The University of Iowa announced Friday that women's wrestling head coach Clarissa Chun has signed a contract extension through 2031.

Chun, who was hired as the first head coach in program history in November 2021, has quickly built Iowa into a national powerhouse. In the Hawkeyes' first three seasons, she has guided the program to two NCWWC national championships, an NCAA national runner-up finish, 12 individual national titles, 36 All-America honors, and three undefeated dual-meet seasons.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the continued trust and support from Beth Goetz and the University of Iowa," Chun said. "This extension reflects the commitment we've made to building a championship program the right way -- through hard work, accountability, and developing student-athletes who excel both on and off the mat. I'm proud of what we've accomplished together and excited about where we're headed."

After winning NCWWC national championships and NWCA National Duals titles in both 2024 and 2025, Iowa finished as the NCAA national runner-up in 2026. The Hawkeyes crowned three national champions and nine All-Americans this past season while posting a 14-1 dual-meet record.

Chun is a two-time USA Wrestling Women's Coach of the Year (2024, 2025) and was also named The Open Mat's 2024 NCAA Women's Coach of the Year. She additionally earned the 2024 NCWWC Trailblazer Award and was recognized as USA Today's Iowa Woman of the Year.

Iowa has also excelled academically under Chun's leadership. Hawkeye wrestlers have earned 35 NWCA Scholar All-America honors over the past three seasons, including a program-record 16 in 2026.

With Chun now under contract through 2031, Iowa has secured one of the sport's most accomplished coaches as women's wrestling continues its rapid growth at the NCAA level.
