Concord University names Edwards first head women's wrestling coach

Concord University has named Bill Edwards as its first head women's wrestling coach, athletic director Luke Duffy announced Tuesday.

Edwards comes to Concord after serving as head wrestling coach at Abingdon High School in Abingdon, Virginia, since 2019. During his tenure with the Eagles, Edwards coached three VHSL Class 3A All-State wrestlers, produced two state runners-up and seven state placers, and sent three wrestlers on to compete at the collegiate level.

Edwards also brings collegiate coaching experience to Athens. He spent two seasons as an assistant at King University in Bristol, Tennessee, his alma mater, helping coach 13 women to All-American status, including one national champion. King's women's wrestling program finished 10th nationally in its first season under head coach Jason Moorman before rising to fourth the following year.

In addition to his high school and collegiate experience, Edwards serves as executive director of the Highlands Wrestling Club, a youth program that has produced multiple All-American wrestlers since 2020.

As a competitor, Edwards was a founding member of King's men's wrestling program in 2005 and wrestled for four years with the Tornado. A six-time all-academic team honoree, he graduated with honors with a degree in physics in 2009. Originally from New York, Edwards was a multi-time state placer in freestyle and Greco-Roman at Washingtonville High School.
