Gavin receives contract extension through 2030 at Pittsburgh
Keith Gavin has received a contract extension through 2030 at Pittsburgh, the program announced. Gavin, who returned to his alma mater as head coach in 2017, has compiled a 79-50 dual meet record with the Panthers, including a 2023 ACC Co-Dual Championship.
During his tenure, Pitt has produced 56 NCAA qualifiers, 15 ACC champions, nine All-Americans and one NCAA champion. In 2023, Nino Bonaccorsi won the 197-pound national title, becoming the 17th champion in program history.
As a competitor, Gavin was a standout at Pitt and beyond. He was the 2008 174-pound NCAA national champion and a two-time All-American with the Panthers, finishing his career with 120 wins, which ranks in the top 10 in program history. He was a two-time EWL champion, two-time EWL Wrestler of the Year and earned a place in the EWL Hall of Fame. After college, Gavin was a member of the U.S. National Team for more than six years, placed third at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and won back-to-back U.S. national championships in 2013 and 2014. Before returning to Pittsburgh as head coach, Gavin spent one season as an assistant at Oklahoma and three seasons on the Virginia coaching staff.
The extension comes at a strong moment for the program. Pitt received a $3 million donation in May -- the largest gift in program history -- and will host the ACC Championships at Victory Heights Arena on March 6-7, 2027, in an expanded two-day format.
