Avila names Infranca head men's wrestling coach

Avila University has named Matt Infranca as head men's wrestling coach, the school announced.

Infranca joins the Eagles after six seasons as head coach at Saint Michael the Archangel High School in Missouri, where he guided the program to three state trophies, including the 2026 Class 3 championship. During his tenure at SMA, Infranca produced 11 individual state champions and 29 state placers. Prior to SMA, he held coaching positions at Blue Springs High School and his alma mater, Oak Grove High School, and founded two club programs -- Champion Wrestling Club and MoWest Wrestling Club -- building each into one of the premier clubs in the region.

Across his coaching career, Infranca has developed more than 25 USA Wrestling All-Americans, six USA Wrestling national champions, three NCAA All-Americans, two NAIA All-Americans and one NAIA national champion.

As a competitor, Infranca was one of the most dominant wrestlers in Missouri history. He won four state titles in the early 1990s, finishing his high school career with a 143-4 record and becoming the first four-time Missouri state champion and the first to accomplish the feat in nearly 50 years. He went on to wrestle at the University of Nebraska and the University of Missouri and earned four USA Wrestling All-American honors.
