Columbia wrestling has named Cesar Alvan as assistant coach, head coach Donny Pritzlaff announced Wednesday.

Alvan returns to Morningside Heights after one of the most accomplished careers in program history. A two-time team captain, he earned NCAA All-America honors in 2026 -- the seventh All-American in program history -- with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships and claimed the 2026 Ivy League title. He graduated from Columbia in May 2026 with a degree in political science.

Beyond the collegiate level, Alvan has represented Brazil on the international stage as a Senior World Team member, won the South American Open championship and earned bronze medals at two Pan American Championships.

Alvan already brings coaching experience to the Lions staff. Since 2020, he has served as a wrestling coach and clinic director, mentoring youth and high school athletes through camps and clinics, including with Metrowest Wrestling Club. He has also worked as a martial arts instructor teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling and as a business developer for Team Link LLC.

Before Columbia, Alvan was a standout at Northfield Mount Hermon and Springfield Central High School in Massachusetts, earning two-time high school All-American honors, two New England titles and more than 200 career victories.
