Iowa State men's wrestling has been placed on one year of probation and received additional penalties stemming from recruiting violations involving two prospective student-athletes in 2025, the NCAA announced..

The violations center on Chris Perry, an assistant coach with the Cyclone Regional Training Center, who had impermissible contact with two athletes during the spring of 2025. According to the NCAA, Perry discussed Iowa State wrestling with both athletes. One of those conversations took place three days before the 2025 transfer portal opened.

Former Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser, who now serves as director of men's and women's wrestling, will be suspended for two contests during the 2026-27 season. Iowa State will also pay a $25,000 fine plus 0.5 percent of the men's wrestling program's budget. The program will be barred from communicating with transfers for one week at the start of the transfer window in both 2026-27 and 2027-28. Perry will be disassociated from the program for two years.

Iowa State acknowledged the violations, saying the school cooperated with the investigation and accepted responsibility. The school noted that the contact involved a non-institutional individual communicating with two athletes at another institution about Iowa State wrestling.

Iowa State made a coaching change following the 2025-26 season, promoting longtime assistant Brent Metcalf to head coach in April. Dresser moved into his current oversight role at that time.
