Bo Bassett secured his first senior world team berth Friday night at Final X in Hilliard, Ohio, sweeping 2025 world bronze medalist Real Woods at 65 kilograms and completing another milestone before beginning his college career at Virginia Tech.

The two-time age-group world champion took the opening bout 8-4, carrying a 3-2 lead into the break before pulling away in the second period. Woods appeared positioned to extend the series in the second match after building a 5-1 lead, but Bassett erased the deficit over the final two minutes, scoring eight unanswered points to claim a 9-5 victory and complete the sweep.

Bassett will now compete at three World Championships in 2026. He already captured gold at the U20 World Championships and is scheduled to wrestle at the U23 World Championships in Las Vegas before competing at the Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, in October. The Senior World Team berth comes as Bassett prepares for his freshman season at Virginia Tech, where he arrives as one of the nation's most decorated incoming recruits.

Dymond Guilford joined Bassett as the other series winner Friday, rallying to defeat Iowa star Kylie Welker at 76 kilograms. Welker, a three-time college national champion, took the opening bout 4-1, but Guilford responded with a 3-2 win in the second match to force a deciding third. Guilford controlled the finale after the score was tied 1-1 at the break, scoring three second-period takedowns on her way to a 7-1 victory. Guilford was a member of the 2022 U.S. senior world team and won a U23 world silver medal that year.

The 68-kilogram series did not take place after North Central's Bella Mir withdrew before competition. Kennedy Blades, the 2024 Olympic silver medalist, 2025 world bronze medalist and two-time college national champion, received two forfeits to secure the world team spot.

Bassett, Guilford and Blades completed the 30-athlete U.S. roster for the 2026 Senior World Championships, scheduled for Oct. 24-Nov. 1 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
